NoCo Hemp Festival 2017 ~ Will I be there?

March 30, 2017 by admin

Many people are asking me, “Hey, will you be at NoCo this week?” I’ve got to say no, but not because it isn’t a great thing they’re doing up there. I feel very strongly that it is a great thing; people meet, people learn, pure community-building stuff.

My problem is, as it always seems to be, it’s Spring and I’m slammed-busy.

Instead, like I have in past years, I’ll be meeting a bunch of people at the lab who are driving thru from the far-corners of the State – and much further – to attend the festival.

If you’re one of these people, please stop in a say hi. -Ben

Otto II Seed Is Back!

February 8, 2017 by admin

Last year I formed a partnership with a Colorado industrial hemp farmer to produce an Otto II seedlot for the 2017 planting season. That seedlot is harvested and undergoing testing in our lab. Once the seedlot has been proofed and germination tested it will be available for purchase.

This partnership accomplishes a major goal of mine, that is to produce seed at a much larger scale while maintaining high standards in performance and reliability. Producing more seed allows me to address larger customers growing on a “from seed” basis. This increase in production also allows me pricing flexibility that wasn’t possible when producing seed at the bench-scale.

If you’re planting industrial hemp for CBD production and you need seed, please consider the Otto II hybrid from Centennial Seeds.

BaOx Seed ~ Very Limited Availability

October 17, 2016 by admin

The 2016 hemp growing season is coming to a close and one thing we’ve learned for certain is that the BaOx high-CBD hybrid seed is our best performer ever.

If you are considering purchasing the BaOx seed for the upcoming planting season be aware that supply is very limited. Seed is available now, but not for long.

Mailing of Industrial Hemp Samples for Testing

October 7, 2016 by admin

Please do not mail industrial hemp samples to our lab. Twice now we have had samples seized by United States Postal Inspection Services. I have learned of these actions when I received notice by registered mail.

I have overlooked this in the past, but I am not willing to risk entanglements with the authorities. I hope you understand.

Mammoth P Microbial Inoculant

February 16, 2016 by admin

If you have been to my shop you know that I sell a select number of horticultural supplies. When I say “select” I mean very few. The reason for this is simple: I only sell products that I use in my lab in the seed making process. This means that you can buy these products from me knowing that I use them and that they work.

Today I added the Mammoth P Microbial Inoculant from Growcentia to my shelves.

mammMammoth P is an organically derived complex of beneficial phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) suspended in solution. The product is mixed with water or a working-strength fertilizer solution and applied to the planting mix as a drench.

Mammoth P makes artificial potting mixes behave more like living soils and assists plants in nutrient uptake.

I have been growing in the same system for years and this is the first microbial amendment I have added to my plants. The results have been bigger, healthier and more lush plants.

Applying beneficial soil microbes to improve the performance of container grown crops is very cool science and is a safe and effective way to increase both the quality and yield of your harvests.

Mammoth P is a Colorado made product that I am proud to offer to my customers.

Centennial Seeds 2015 Year In Review

December 3, 2015 by admin

The 2015 hemp growing season was a busy one, and one that none of us will soon forget.

As this year is coming to its end I find myself looking back at both the accomplishments and the lessons learned in 2015. This year was important to our business in many ways.

In January of this year we released the Otto II(TM) high-CBD seed variety to Colorado hemp farmers. Otto II was enthusiastically received by farmers throughout the state and stands today as our best-selling seed of all time. Farmers that grew the Otto II in its inaugural year reported excellent field performance and better-than-expected yields under a wide variety of conditions.

ottoII-1We are proud to say that in 2015 not a single farmer growing the Otto II seed under the industrial hemp program failed compliance testing by the Colorado Department of Agriculture. This is a powerful statement and one that speaks directly to the care and quality control that went into producing this new seed.

In August of this year we released a small amount of the BaOx hybrid seed. This was too late in the year to plant an outdoor crop, but just in time to cycle it at least once, maybe twice in greenhouses before spring planting. We will be paying close attention to the results of these indoor crops so as to better understand the harvest window for the BaOx.

This year we also began offering basic lab analytical services for hemp R&D, product formulation and crop compliance monitoring. Many of our seed customers utilize these services to monitor the THC limits in their industrial hemp fields and greenhouses and to develop accurate harvest window data for the hemp cultivars they farm.

While each of our lab services customers is different, they all have at least one thing in common: they need answers to technical questions related to their hemp agribusiness. We feel fortunate to be of service in this way to the industry and I personally take the responsibility of providing technical and analytical services very seriously.

While 2015 may be coming to a close, it is now time to start thinking about next year’s planting. Take time to think about what you learned this year and how you can apply those lessons to improve your outcome in 2016.

Thank you for your support this year. We look forward to working with you for many years to come.
