Thin Layer Chromotagraphy Lab

December 10, 2013

Equipment is beginning to arrive for my new thin layer chromotography lab. Waiting on solvents, micro pipettes and a text book. By January I will have in-house cannabinoid screening capability. This will rapidly accelerate the seed development process by allowing me to screen for desirable chemotypes.

Centennial Seeds to Lease Boulder County Farm for Hemp Seed Production

November 10, 2013

This morning I shook hands on a farm lease for the 2014 season. The farm is located in Boulder County. There are irrigation ditches and a well for water. The farm has been fallow for more than a decade and has been used to graze horses. Based on the amount of scattered manure I will […]

Otto#2 And The Invisible Hand

September 15, 2013

Today I began the early work to produce the Otto#2 seed. Over 2 years of positive feedback from commercial growers has helped me to develop a clear understanding of what the marketplace desires in a CBD-rich variety. I believe that the early Otto-x work is the perfect genetic base from which to start.

Colorado Hemp Phytoremediation Trials ~ Burn Area Soil Pilot Test

April 14, 2013

In the aftermath of some very serious wild land fires here in Colorado, it was asked if hemp could be used to stabilize soil in burned out areas to reduce erosion caused by subsequent rain. It was then asked if hemp would even grow in scorched earth. These are both interesting questions to me. To […]

FSL#2 An Exceptionally High CBD Plant Preserved in Seed Form

April 6, 2013

These came to me as a gift last week from a very generous friend. The seeds are selfed (S1) from a female Kush type that belonged to the people at Full Spectrum Labs. I am told the plant tested at 17% CBD and 6% THC. If this proves to be true, this could be […]

Czech Ruderalis ~ Seedlings at 31 Days

February 10, 2013

Czech Ruderalis ~ Seedlings at 31 Days These Ruderalis are really beautiful plants. Beautiful enough, I think, to be grown as ornamentals here in Colorado. You can see by the super-wide leaflets and efficient canopy that they are well adapted to the low light and long days found at high-latitudes. You’ll see that they are […]

Czech Ruderalis ~ Seedlings at 10 Days

January 22, 2013

Czech Ruderalis seedlings at 10 days. The leaves are very wide and have an almost iridescent quality, as one visitor commented. Blue pigments are beginning to develop along the mid-ribs. The pigmentation is quite visible and contrasts with the otherwise green foliage. I’m watching these carefully to be sure that the pretty colors are not […]

Carmagnola Hemp ~ Initial Seed Increase 2012

December 28, 2012

Carmagnola hemp seed, Lafayette, Colorado December 2012. As far as I am aware this is the first technical hemp seed line to be established in the State of Colorado since World War II. The next phase is to increase the seed yet again. This second increase must be conducted outdoors in order for us to […]

Hydroponic Fertilizer Formulation for Cannabis Using Peters 10-30-20

December 3, 2012

The following is a simple fertilization formula for growing cannabis in soil-less media or in hydroculture. This formulation has been trialed successfully in my gardens in Fafard Urban Mix A peat lite growing media. This formula can be run throughout the life cycle of the crop, from the seedling stage to finish. However, I have […]

Photographs of Immature Seeded Hemp Fruit

November 17, 2012

Below are photographs of immature seeded hemp fruit. The plants have been under a short day for 30 days, the males have all released their pollen and have been dispatched. The plants are showing clear signs of pollination. These signs would include a uniform browning and withering of the pistils,┬áthe cessation of new pistils emerging […]
